Truth
As the fourth director of the 75-year Harvard Study of Adult Development Waldinger (2016) states that even though today's society places greater value in high achievement, wealth and personal recognition, the truth behind what leads to the healthiest and happiest lives are loving relationships. Maxwell (2003) contends that each of us desires to feel valued appreciated, trusted, respected, understood, and not taken advantage of. When our chosen values and subsequent goals are focused on making self and others feel these ways, we come to recognize the TRUTH of what brings significance into our lives. When we look outside of ourselves with the intent to serve others, we in fact serve our own happiness by creating and maintaining the positive relationships that bring significance to our lives. The values of RESPECT and LOVE are at the heart of this truth.
